2018 Tampa Gun Show falls during national debate on gun safety

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – This weekend, thousands of gun enthusiasts will be at the 2018 Tampa Gun Show. Dealers from across the nation will be showcasing and selling their weapons. While this two day event will give people the chance to buy a weapon, organizers are also reminding everyone about Florida laws. Jorge Fernandez is the manager behind this weekend’s show. "We make sure that all of our vendors that come to the Florida gun show abide by all of our federal regulations and our state laws and local ordinances in the county that we are enforcing at the time," he said. Fernandez tells us his vendors are aware of the gun debate taking place in the country and they’re informed on the county laws. "We’re reminding all of our dealers and all persons who are coming here to the Florida gun show that if they do decide to purchase a firearm… that they make sure they conduct all transfers through a federal licensed firearms dealers." One other reminder to buyers this weekend is the very important waiting period to buy a firearm. "Some of the background checks, the three day waiting period, you know they’ve in the books for sometime, but there really hasn’t been any mechanism to enforce the requirements that are within the Hillsborough County law," said Fernandez.
