Assault on America, Day 49: Petrified Pelosi threatens ‘national emergency’ on gun violence

It passed in the night like so many anniversaries, that being the one-year mark since the awful school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida , where then nineteen-year-old Nikolas Cruz murdered seventeen students and teachers on Valentine’s Day, 2018. In the immediate aftermath of the tragic events opportunistic local glory-seekers (such as David Hogg) and liberal national politicians used the public’s heightened awareness of mass murder perpetrated by unbalanced individuals employing firearms to demand greater restrictions on gun purchases by law abiding citizens under our Constitution. They were partially successful in Florida, where then-Governor (and now Senator) Rick Scott signed into law a bill raising the minimum purchase age from 18 to 21 in the state. Not content to limit the rolling back of rights to the local level, congressional Democrats are now hoping to use their new House majority to pass national firearms laws. Lydia Wheeler and Mike Lillis reported at The Hill , “Democrats are charging ahead in hopes of pressuring GOP leaders on an issue that has overwhelming public support and is sure to gain prominence as the 2020 presidential cycle picks up steam. “The House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday night advanced a bill, H.R. 8, requiring background checks on all firearm sales, over the objections of Republicans. “Supporters say universal screenings are a commonsense safeguard for keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous people.
