Blame broken families, not NRA, for gun violence: Letters

(Mark Boster / Los Angeles Times) Somehow Henry Lim, in his Central Florida 100 commentary on Sunday, has reached the conclusion that one of Florida’s finest companies and largest employers, Publix Supermarkets (I’m a very pleased customer) and gubernatorial candidate Adam Putnam (I’m not a supporter) are responsible for allowing the Pulse nightclub and Parkland high school shootings to happen. Anyone who thinks the National Rifle Association (I’m not a member) is the source of gun violence is clearly barking up the wrong tree. NRA disparagers would be well-advised to do a complete reassessment of the root cause of gun violence in this country. We already have all the laws we need on the books. Four decades ago, abortion-on-demand and no-fault divorce laws degraded the family fabric in our country. Fatherless homes, failing schools, proliferation of violent videos and all-to-common bad parenting combine to result in way too many neglected kids behaving very badly. It was a much better and safer environment when parents stayed together and raised their children in Godly homes. It’s time to wake up, America. George W. Koehn Winter Park
