Blumenthal, Murphy Highly Concerned About Trump's Supreme Court Pick

(Photo by Christopher Keating) U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy are highly concerned that the four leading finalists for the U.S. Supreme Court would have strongly conservative views to change major American laws on abortion and guns. The senators are awaiting President Donald Trump ’s pick Monday night for a new, ninth justice who could potentially tip the balance on key issues on a court with four reliable conservatives and four liberals. The four presumed finalists, who are on a list crafted by the conservative Federalist Society, are federal judges whose profiles have increased in recent days as Trump seeks to fill a seat being vacated by 81-year-old Anthony Kennedy, a key swing voter who has become the court’s most influential member in recent years. One of them, Brett Kavanaugh, 53, served as a clerk to Kennedy after graduating from Yale University in New Haven in 1987 and Yale Law School in 1990. He served under special prosecutor Kenneth Starr and helped write a voluminous report about the investigation into then-President Bill Clinton.
