Clarke County now a Second Amendment Sanctuary County

(Christopher Braunschweig) During the Aug. 16 Clarke County Supervisors meeting the board voted unanimously to make Clarke County a Second Amendment Sanctuary County along with many other counties across the state. The right to keep and bear arms is guaranteed in the United States Constitution in order to defend life, liberty and property and the county does have an economic benefit from all safe forms of firearm recreation. There is currently legislation being considered or expected to be proposed by both the Federal Legislature and the Iowa State Legislature that potentially seeks to infringe on that constitutionally protected right. The Board of Supervisors have sworn to uphold the United States and the State of Iowa Constitutions and understand that the Federal and State legislatures cannot be solely trusted to protect citizens Second Amendment rights. In voting to make Clarke County a Second Amendment Sanctuary County they opposing the enactment of any legislation or the issuance of executive order that would infringe upon the rights of Clarke County citizens. Legislation by either the United States Congress, the Iowa General Assembly, any order promulgated by the Federal or State Executive branches that infringe upon the Second Amendment rights will not be enforced by any individual employed by the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office or any other employee of Clarke County.
