David McKinley: Republican candidate for West Virginia's 1st Congressional District

WHEELING — David McKinley has represented West Virginia’s 1st Congressional District since 2011. McKinley, a professional engineer, hopes to win a sixth term in the Nov. 3 general election. Because this is a presidential election year, McKinley said he knows a lot of voters will be being making decisions based on the candidates at the top of the ballot. “Primarily, what we’re trying to do is make a differentiation between the candidates on the national ticket so that people can understand that they may have a difference with President Trump because of his form, but did he accomplish what he said he was going to do,” McKinley said. “He said he was going to energize the economy, and he did. He said he was going to roll back regulations, and he did. He said he was going to help the coal industry, and he did the best that he could, because the regulations there were just overwhelming.” Many of the issues currently facing the country are larger than any one individual, McKinley said. “What we’re really talking about is the direction the country is going in,” he said. “It’s the country that we should be focused on.” He worries that a Joe Biden/Kamala Harris administration would be detrimental to the state’s energy industry and to Second Amendment rights, McKinley said. “They are supporting the Green New Deal, and one of the foundations of the Green New Deal is, in fact, banning fracking across America.
