Day in History: VFW passes gun control proposal

• Katherine Busho, a student at Rochester Community College, was crowned Miss Rochester for 1994. She will represent Rochester at next year’s Miss Minnesota Pageant in Austin. • A three-bedroom rambler, minutes from downtown Rochester, on 2.27 acres with a pole barn is now on the market for $169,900. • For the first time in its history, the Minnesota Veterans of Foreign Wars have gone on record favoring national gun control. The proposal favors “a national system of gun control of all firearms without cost to individual citizens to aid federal, state and local law enforcement officials in the apprehension of criminals.” The proposal states that the VFW opposes any law which restricts the right of citizens to purchase firearms, except in such instances as minors, convicted felons, users of narcotics and proven psychotics. • Barbara Kruegel, a Preston High School graduate, has been crowned as the new Region 10 dairy princess. She will be eligible to compete in the statewide contest to select a new Princess Kay of the Milky Way on August 24 at the Minnesota State Fair. • In St. Paul today the Office of the War Manpower Commission said about four million persons will have to shift from nonessential to essential work before the end of 1943.
