No surprise there, from Republican governors, that really shows just the continued… the continued pervasive like anti-Black, pro mass incarceration [mentality] that we often see from the GOP. So in Alabama, the governor, Kay Ivey, she is about to sign or has already signed a bill that would procure $400 million of COVID money — not to reduce the impact of COVID in her community and her state; not to address mental health, that has been more complicated because of COVID and the pandemic; but, to build more prisons, she is using these funds to not only build three new prisons, but to provide better infrastructure, in her words, of existing prisons in Alabama.
