Duve, Storie vie for St. Lawrence County court judge

Photos: David Sommerstein County court is the hub of the legal system in the North County. It’s where many civil and criminal cases are tried, including the most high-profile ones. Voters in St. Lawrence County are about to pick a new county judge for a ten-year term. The result could hinge on experience, or on the previous judge’s position on one issue – pistol permits. Democrat Nicole Duve has served almost every role in the North Country’s court system over 30 years – assistant public defender, St. Lawrence County district attorney for two terms, private attorney. But she says working as principal law clerk for this very court for five years means she knows how to do the job she still hasn’t done, county court judge — from scheduling to jury selection to trial. "All of those things are things that I have done and things that I have helped judges do," Duve said. "So I have tremendous amounts of experience, just in the day-to-day workings of county court." Republican Greg Storie has 13 years of experience, mostly in family court. He’s a former Canton village justice. Now he’s a child attorney in abuse and neglect cases.
