How to create a campaign team? How much time to spend on the campaign trail? How to introduce yourself to voters who may have never heard of you? How do you shake all those hands? Throw in a global pandemic that has created havoc across the nation, as well as in your own back yard, and you have the world that John Emmons finds himself in today. Emmons is running as a Republican for the state 6th Congressional District seat, which encompasses all of Chester County and the southern part of Berks County, including the city of Reading. He faces Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. Chrissy Houlahan, who is making her second run for the office since winning election in 2018 — the first of her party to do so in decades. A third candidate, independent John McHugh of Honey Brook, is also on the ballot. “This has got to be the strangest year in U.S. history,” said Emmons last week in a telephone interview about his campaign and political background. “It definitely has been challenging.” But despite the restrictions placed on social interactions forced on him by the COVID-19 outbreak, Emmons said he believed his campaign had overcome the initial obstacles and was making headway getting his name and message out to voters […]
