Final gun show at OC fairgrounds will be in November

(Photo by Mindy Schauer, Orange County Register/SCNG) The OC Fair & Event Center’s last gun show before a ban takes effect will be held Thanksgiving weekend. Gun shows have been held a few times a year at Orange County’s fairgrounds for several decades, but a new law that prohibits gun shows on the state-owned property will go into effect Jan. 1 . Earlier this week the OC Fair & Event Center’s Board of Directors approved a contract with Crossroads of the West producer B & L Productions for a final show that will take place Nov. 27 and 28. Fairgrounds CEO Michele Richards noted at the board meeting that the November show had been on the booking calendar for months and the contract to rent the facility was in the works before the upcoming ban was signed into law. The law, written by state Sen. Dave Min of Irvine, was drafted to cover all state-owned property including numerous other fairgrounds, but Min has said it got pared back – against his wishes – in an Assembly committee to only the OC venue. Min has said he plans to take another swing at a broader ban in the new legislative session beginning in January.
