Gov Ricketts makes state pro-gun sanctuary

‘It sends a message’ Gov. Pete Ricketts drew a line in the sand on gun rights. Wednesday he signed a proclamation making Nebraska a Second Amendment Sanctuary State. "Nebraska has always been a state that has supported our Second Amendment rights," Ricketts said in a video posted on Facebook. He told KETV Newswatch 7 in an interview that if the Biden administration and Congress continue to pursue tighter gun laws, Nebraska is ready to fight. "If they try to do executive orders that are unconstitutional or if they try to pass laws that overstep federal authority, the state of Nebraska will be taking them to court as we did the Obama administration when that administration overstepped the bounds on what they were capable of doing and we were very successful," Ricketts said. Ricketts proclamation comes as at least four other states and 53 Nebraska counties have passed similar resolutions. Gage County Board Chairman Erich Tiemann introduced the resolution passed in that county. "It sends a message up the chain that Nebraska supports the rights given to us by the Nebraska Constitution as well as the U.S. Constitution," Tiemann said. But Melody Vaccaro of Nebraskans Against Gun Violence called the actions political theater. "These resolutions aren’t solving those things but certainly is pandering to people who are filled with violent rhetoric," Vaccaro said.
