Gun activist tour comes to St. Louis as gun restrictions get bipartisan support in Illinois

ST. LOUIS • A national tour organized by survivors of a deadly mass shooting at a Florida high school stopped in St. Louis on Sunday to spark a conversation about gun crimes and put pressure on politicians to pass gun restrictions. Photo by David Carson, “I want you guys to realize that the only way we’re going to be able to create positive, effective change for the future, the future of this nation, the future of our children, and this epidemic of poverty, and this disease of violence in our country, is by one thing,” activist David Hogg told about 250 people here Sunday night. “Your vote.” Hogg, a survivor of the Valentine’s Day shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., that left 17 dead, was among speakers from Florida, Chicago and St. Louis who participated in a panel at Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School in Grand Center. They emphasized putting political pressure on elected officials two days after the March for Our Lives Road to Change tour began in Chicago, where activists helped register voters.
