Gun Advocates Rally at MI Capitol As Proposed Firearms Ban Stalls

Dozens of gun rights advocates met at the Michigan State Capitol Thursday for an annual rally in favor of the Second Amendment. Gun rights supporters rallied at the state Capitol in Lansing Thursday in support of the Second Amendment days after a Capitol gun ban failed. The 11th annual Second Amendment March brought dozens to the Michigan Capitol grounds Thursday. The event comes just days after the Michigan Capitol Commission delayed a vote on a proposed firearm ban inside the building. Second Amendment March founder Skip Coryell says in light of recent civil unrest, opponents might use the threat of riots to argue against guns but they shouldn’t. “You’ve got 500 to 1,500 guns here every single year,” Coryell notes. “Nobody has been hurt, not a single drop of blood has ever been shed. And that’s the argument that…hey, just leave us alone. The wheel’s not broken. Don’t try to fix it.” Committees met but the legislature was not in session. The Michigan State Capitol allows open and concealed carry firearms.
