Gun-rights activists march through Olmos Park to protest police chief

More than 300 gun-rights activists — many of them armed with rifles, shotguns and handguns — peacefully held a rally Saturday in the normally quiet enclave of Olmos Park to demand the dismissal of Police Chief Rene Valenciano and protest the behavior of his officers. “What brings me here is the abuse of open carriers by Olmos Park PD, and we’re not going to stand for it,” said Ken Grant, a member of the group Open Carry Texas who had brought a World War II-era rifle, a Ruger handgun and a fishing pole with a plastic donuts dangling from it that he called “tyrant bait” for police.
