Hamden Joins The Gun Safety Consortium

May 25, 2021 Hamden Joins the Gun Safety Consortium, Leng Stands with U.S. Conference of Mayors in Support of Enhanced Background Checks Hamden, CT – Mayor Curt Balzano Leng is proud to take a stand against gun violence and for the promotion of overall gun safety within our communities and across the Nation. In these efforts, Hamden has recently become a new member of the Gun Safety Consortium, an organization that brings together municipalities, counties, states and public-sector agencies to advance the cause of gun safety using their combined purchasing power, expertise and research. The Consortium is currently conducting a request for proposal on behalf of its membership to identify and procure firearm safety devices and related products that will strengthen efforts to protect law enforcement, their families and the general public; while also reducing instances of firearm theft, accidental discharges, and general firearm security. A new organization, the initial focus of the Gun Safety Consortium is to "encourage the development of technologies and products that will help gun owners secure their firearms, as well as products than can help law enforcement investigate and prevent gun-related crimes." Hamden now joins a number of other Connecticut municipalities as a member of the Gun Safety Consortium, including Harford, New Haven, Norwalk, Bridgeport and Milford.
