‘I am not going to take that’: Ron DeSantis hits back after man blames him for Jacksonville shooting
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis hit back during a press conference on Thursday, after a man appeared to blame the governor’s policies for the shooting in Jacksonville last month in which three people were killed. The man, who was not immediately identified, first said he respected DeSantis for his military service, but he quickly said the governor “allowed people to hunt people like me.” “Excuse me, I’m not going to let you accuse me of committing criminal activity,” DeSantis said. “I am not going to take that. I am not going to take that. If you want to have a civil conversation that’s one thing, to try to say that I’m letting – that guy was Baker Acted.” The man who committed the shooting was the subject of a Baker Act, which under Florida law, allows a person to be involuntarily committed to a mental health facility. The victims of the shootings were all Black, and the attack is being investigated as a hate crime. “There is the truth. There is something about the truth. It’s not, everyone doesn’t have their own truth.
