Know Your Candidates: Susie Lee

Why are you running for office? Lee: I am running for office to continue the work I have done my entire career, which is to help people. When I’ve seen a problem in our community, I’ve rolled up my sleeves and worked with whomever I could to solve it. I started our community’s first comprehensive homeless drop-in center; founded the After-School All-Stars program to give our most at-risk students that extra enrichment and support after-school; and I took on our state’s high school dropout problem as president of Communities in Schools, leading it to become the state’s premier drop-out prevention program. I, like the majority of my constituents, was frustrated with the dysfunction and divisiveness in Washington that was preventing progress on issues that would help Americans. That is why I am proud to be ranked as one of the most bipartisan members of Congress, as a member of the Problem Solvers Caucus, which consists of half Democrats and half Republicans. In my first term, I have passed significant legislation to help veterans, keep our seniors in their homes with support, helping students, as well as working across the aisle on COVID-19 relief — I am committed to continuing that work.
