Letter: Give FBI more time for gun background checks

As a young person growing up in the United States who aims to possibly become a lawmaker or a journalist, I am constantly looking for ways that gun violence can be decreased. There is a loophole that allows any American citizen to take advantage of the three-day time limit that the FBI has to complete a background check. In most states, a citizen wishing to purchase a firearm must only wait three business days for clearance from the FBI. If the FBI does not respond within three days, the citizen bypasses the system and is allowed to purchase a firearm without clearance of their background check.
