LETTER: Many are looking at gun laws the wrong way

To the editor: This morning on the news, a statement was made that more people have been killed in mass murders in 2018 than military personnel have died in hostile areas. The people making these comments are anti-gun, and I think they are looking at it the wrong way. The reasons that military deaths are down are because President Trump has all but eradicated ISIS, something the previous administration didn’t have the fortitude to do; and military personnel are a hardened target unlike schools, which are a soft target. It’s time to do away with making schools gun-free zones because killers don’t care. To them, gun-free zones are an easy target. Now, some are thinking having guns didn’t stop the shootings at Fort Hood a few years ago. Unfortunately, the area of Fort Hood that was attacked was a gun-free zone. No one was armed except the MPs, who weren’t in the immediate area. Stop trying to take law-abiding citizens’ guns away and go after the real threats. The liberals need to stop protecting MS-13 gang members and other gangs dealing drugs. The weapons these people have, they have illegally. There is no need for confiscation gun laws as some are suggesting, since there are laws covering nearly every aspect of gun use, for example: murder is illegal, making your guns available to others by not locking them up is illegal in some states, and should be common sense elsewhere, and mentally disturbed people are not allowed to own […]
