Every once in awhile difficulties come our way. Those things that we never thought we’d see coming. For those of you who are experiencing being sucker punched by unprofessional people, please remember to let cooler heads prevail. Like many of you, when you see injustice and mean-spiritedness, I cringe. It is all I can do sometimes to turn the other cheek. But I’ve had great examples along the way, not the least of who are Pastor Lance and Donna Knauss who serve our community daily. That being said, there are a number of people who serve our communities with dignity and integrity. Off the top of my head, I’d like to send kudos to County Commissioners Court Boice and Christopher Paasch for you both wanting to hear from the people of Curry County. Every chance that you get, you encourage participation and empowerment over secrecy, controlling and marginalizing citizens’ opinions. Additionally, thank you to City Councilor Ron Hedenskog for your continued service to our community not only at the City of Brookings but also at St. Timothy’s. What a fantastic example of humility and leadership in combination. These are the veterans and veterans’ family members along with Mayor Karl and Leslie Popoff, Sheriff John Ward and Mayor Jim Auborn who I have seen stay true to a moral compass and build rather than destroy.
