Letters to the Editor: Focus on gun violence

Regarding “Targeting the undocumented” (Editorial, May 21): I wish that the Trump administration would spend even half the time and resources that are being used to round up and deport undocumented immigrants in this country to decreasing gun violence. Why should I have to worry that my children might not return home from school one day and be victims of yet another senseless shooting? The president and Attorney General Jeff Sessions have so much animus toward anyone who is here illegally — even people who are hardworking and have long-standing community ties — while having no real anger over the gun deaths of young schoolchildren. Their unwillingness to call for more gun control is startling. In my opinion, any politician who has accepted National Rifle Association money — including President Trump — has the blood of these innocent victims on their hands. With the sharp decline in union membership over the past two generations, more and more workers are being deprived of decent wages and benefits. But businesses, who have a desire to increase their profits, still cannot turn a blind eye to everything that happens in their workplaces to subcontracted employees.
