How Republicans can reclaim their party Donald Trump has shown he cannot protect our country from COVID-19. He couldn’t even protect himself and others in the White House. For this and other failings, many Republicans have decided to vote against him next month. But to reclaim the Republican party, they need to go further. The Republican party has really become the Trumpublican party. Every four years they normally produce a platform listing their core beliefs. This year they said, in effect, “whatever Trump says, we favor." Unfortunately, of course, all Trump cares about is what will benefit him and his family. If you want to make the Republican party the party of Lincoln and Reagan again, instead of the party of Trump, you need to remove those who are abetting his takeover of the party. Why do they go along with Trump, who shows no allegiance to core Republican values? I don’t know. Maybe it’s fear of Trump. Maybe they just don’t care and want the political power their office allows them. Maybe they don’t want their brother to be mad at them. Whatever the reason, when you are looking at the ballot with an (R) after the name, ask yourself “Have they shown the courage to oppose Trump’s mishandling of COVID-19? Have they ever spoken out against Trump’s enriching himself at the expense of America’s interests?” If the answer is “no," you need to vote for the other person.
