Local gun retailers talk increase in gun sales

Yasin Ozturk / Anadolu Agency SAN ANTONIO (KABB/WOAI) – The year has started with a bang for gun sales across the nation. In San Antonio gun retailers are trying to keep up with the growing demand. "The gun sales spiking, it’s just hard to keep up with inventory," says Josh Felker, president of LoneStar Handgun. "Getting ammunition and firearms is very, very difficult." "We’re extremely busy, we’re more than double our capacity right now," says Jonathan Hirsch, president of Adelbridge & Co. Firearms. The reason for the uptick in sales? These local gun shops say there’s more than one reason. "People are looking for security and they’re buying it in guns, they’re buying it in ammunition," says Hirsch. "It’s a form of feeling secure in a world that’s far from secure right now." "There’s a lot of fear that by executive order or by Congress, that if they want to move forward with it, that they’ll limit capacity magazines," says Felker. That fear comes from new and old gun owners alike. According to numbers from the FBI, gun sales shot up 60 percent last month compared to January of 2020. The FBI also says before 2020 and 2021 the biggest increase in gun sales they saw came the month after President Barack Obama was re-elected in 2012.
