Local students rally against gun violence in St. Pete in support of Stoneman Douglas victims

Road to Change rally in St. Pete. Video Video ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – Students from around the Tampa Bay area joined a rally in St. Pete led by students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Ever since the tragic Parkland shooting that ended the lives of 17 people, students from Stoneman Douglas and other students from across the country are trying to make a difference. They are in involved with what’s called a ‘Road to Change’ tour this summer. The group stopped in St. Petersburg Thursday for a rally in Williams Park. The group is visiting all 27 congressional districts in Florida to keep the conversation going about gun violence and to encourage people to register to vote to make a change. “This is about saving people’s lives and that’s something that we can all agree on," said a passionate high school student. Students are on a mission almost five months after the Stoneman Douglas Valentines Day shooting. Survivors don’t want the gun issue to fade away and they want to clear up misconceptions about their goals. “So many people hear, when they hear, ‘March for our Lives,’ they think we want to take away their guns. And that is completely false. I’ve grown up in a home with guns in it and we’re pushing for common sense gun legislation to make sure people can have guns, as long as they’re responsible,” said Lauren Hogg, Parkland student.
