It is important for readers to know that Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) is NOT an "Anti-Gun Group." It is a bipartisan group of over 1,000 mayors from across the nation who support the Second Amendment and are committed to the safety of their constituents. You’ll see this on the MAIG website (everytown.org/mayors/): "If you’re a mayor who supports Second Amendment rights but knows we can do so much more to protect our towns and cities, please join us by signing our Statement of Principles." These mayors work to reduce gun-related deaths and injuries by eliminating illegal firearms and by promoting gun safety. Period. They are neither "anti-gun" nor "out to get" your legal guns. Of even more concern is the mindset of three city council members – the three who are midway through their four-year terms. They are not yet convinced that Webster Mayor Gerry Welch should participate in Mayors Against Illegal Guns.
