Michigan House Rep Wants 2nd Amendment 'Sanctuary State,' but not for 'Illegal Aliens and Stuff'

State News Photo: Facebook A Republican mid-Michigan state representative is pushing a series of resolutions at local and state levels he says will protect residents’ Second Amendment freedoms, Michigan Advance reported. This includes House Resolution 219 , spearheaded by Rep. Gary Eisen (R-St. Clair Twp.). The resolution would declare Michigan a “sanctuary state” for gun owners, and “fully affirm its support of the rights ensured and protected by the constitutions of the United States and Michigan, including the rights of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms.” Eisen introduced a similar resolution in St. Clair County, but received some pushback from commissioners, who were worried it would be confused with the term “sanctuary city” as it relates to immigration, Michigan Advance reported. Sanctuary cities limit their cooperation with some federal authorities in their enforcement of immigration law. Eisen draws a clear distinction: “Many feel that the word sanctuary was hijacked by cities for the illegal aliens and stuff,” Eisen said. “It’s a good word, but it just got kind of turned around, with the illegal sanctuary cities and stuff.” Eisen also introduced house House Resolution 227 , a similar bill which calls for the state Legislature to ratify a citizen’s rights to bear arms.
