Some rural IL counties have passed resolutions to establish a " sanctuary " for gun owners to counter efforts by the Democratic-led state legislature to pass stricter gun control laws. Effingham and Iroquois Counties were the first to pass the measures, with similar resolutions passing since then in Saline, Jefferson and Perry County. The sanctuaries are hoping to send a message to the Democratic-controlled Legislature in the state who are now working to pass gun control bills. "It’s a buzzword, a word that really gets attention", David Campbell, vice chairman of the Effingham County Board, told the AP.
