National Rifle Association President Oliver North addresses donors at an Oregon Republican Party fundraiser held at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville on Saturday. MCMINNVILLE, Ore. — National Rifle Association President Oliver North spoke at an Oregon Republican Party fundraiser in McMinnville on Saturday. The event was held at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum on Northeast Captain Michael King Smith Way. A sign on the front door of the museum reads, "No firearms or weapons allowed on this property." The crowd of around 300 people applauded as North took the stage Saturday evening. He commended them for being some "mighty brave Republicans for being out here in Oregon." "To my knowledge, it’s the most successful event in terms of a fundraiser that we’ve had in at least a decade," State Republican Party Chairman Bill Currier told a KATU reporter. "This is an excellent opportunity for the state Republican Party to bring in a nationally-known speaker, (Retired) Lt. Col. Oliver North, to talk about an issue that affects many Oregonians and that’s self-protection and the current attempts to remove through anti-Second Amendment action in the Legislature that ability to protect themselves." In particular, Currier said the state Republican Party opposes Oregon Senate Bill 978 , which would make several changes to current gun regulations.
