Texas gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke defended comments he made supporting the confiscation of AR-15s and AK-47s during his 2019 presidential primary campaign. “Yes, I still hold this view,” O’Rourke told CNN on Sunday after launching his campaign last week. BETO O’ROURKE IS THE VOICE OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY O’Rourke said during a 2019 Democratic presidential primary debate, “Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47. We’re not going to allow it to be used against our fellow Americans anymore.” O’Rourke also called the measure Gov. Greg Abbott signed into law this summer, allowing permitless concealed carry , “divisive extremism.” “We are a state that has a long, proud tradition of responsible gun ownership, and most of us here in Texas do not want to see our friends, our family, our neighbors shot up with these weapons of war,” O’Rourke said. “We don’t want extremism in our gun laws, we want to protect the Second Amendment, and we want to respect the lives of our fellow Texans,” he added.
