Patz: Kudos to the board for gun regulations

Gun rights supporters rally outside the Loudoun County Government Center on Sept. 1. I was surprised to see in the Sept. 11 Loudoun Times-Mirror that two readers criticized the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors for prohibiting firearms in county buildings and parks. I was more surprised to read their attempt to rationalize their critique of the board’s decision for using good judgment and common sense. The more I read of the two pieces of commentary, the more I realized that each had no clue that the vast majority of the county and country are sick and tired of the blasé attitude of the National Rifle Association and its members toward gun violence. To see armed men hold siege on the government buildings in Michigan or to walk down the streets of our cities with automatic weapons is like watching a cartoon show, or a bunch of clowns, but there is nothing comical about these actions. One commentary stated that guns are needed in public parks and buildings for protection. How stupid is that? The other submission noted that a problem doesn’t exist. Perhaps that’s because elected officials won’t let it happen The Loudoun Times Mirror has had several stories of people shooting rifles for target practice where the bullets hit residential homes. What’s that old saying — “When will they ever learn?” Well, thanks to the board for this start of a lesson, and I hope that they keep it up. Stuart Patz Potomac Falls
