'Protect America Now' — headed by controversial Arizona sheriff, co-founded with Greene County's sheriff

Protect America Now is a nationwide advocacy organization “breaking through the ‘Fake News'” to educate the public on how the American sheriff is “standing for our Constitution and law and order.” When the right-wing group started up last year, Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott was a founding member and continues to serve on its seven-member advisory board. “It’s a group formed from several of us sheriffs all across the country,” Arnott told the News-Leader. “It’s a grassroots organization that is basically telling the American citizens that we need to stand up and that the sheriff is the last line of defense.” The group is headed by Mark Lamb, a controversial Arizona sheriff who has often made national politics a focus of his work. Since being elected as sheriff of Arizona’s third most populous county in 2017, Lamb frequently appears on outlets like Fox News or Newsmax while generating controversy for his comments on the COVID-19 vaccine and defense of U.S. Capitol rioters. Lamb refused to enforce Arizona’s lockdown efforts after that state’s stay-at-home order was extended in May 2020. Speaking at a September 2021 rally against vaccine mandates, Lamb called such mandates “garbage” and suggested “patriots” needed to work to defend their freedoms. “We’re going to find out what kind of patriots you are.
