Ray Nelson: On the proposed Red-Flag legislation, leave Constitutional questions to the courts

In response to the proposed Red-Flag legislation, House Republicans Lori Saine, Steve Humphrey, and Perry Buck encouraged our Weld commissioners to declare Weld a “2nd Amendment Sanctuary County.” Meanwhile, El Paso County Sheriff Bill Elder (R) is getting “threats” for denouncing his County Commission’s vote to become a “2nd Amendment Sanctuary.” Even though he opposes the Red-Flag legislation, he is committed to enforcing duly enacted legislation. “We have a system where laws are tested and declared one way or another by the courts, don’t we?” he asked. “Do people expect a Sheriff, a Chief of Police, a Mayor, or ANY elected person to decide if a law is ‘constitutional’ or not?” This post is a letter to the editor.
