Red flag raised on Trump’s anti-gun ATF pick

A Second Amendment advocacy organization is calling on the United States Senate to reject President Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). Trump nominated Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) President Chuck Canterbury to head the ATF, which is – among other things – the federal agency that enforces federal laws related to firearms. The president’s choice of Canterbury has at least one pro-gun lobby very concerned. Gun Owners of America Legislative Counsel Mike Hammond maintains that Canterbury has demonstrated a strong anti-gun bias as head of the FOP. "He certainly opposed aspects of the constitutional carry legislation that’s being proposed in Ohio ,” Hammond pointed out . “He went up and did a happy dance on behalf of Sonya Sotomayor when she was nominated for the Supreme Court and Eric Holder when he was nominated as attorney general. It is argued that picking Canterbury is another indication of a problematic movement by the president. “And he seems to fall within the trend of Trump nominating anti-gun zealots to top Justice Department positions,” Hammond continued. “And yet we have indicated that we think his nomination should be defeated." The pro-gun rights leader said he doesn’t know how likely it will be that Canterbury will be defeated.
