Residents voice strong opinions on 2nd Amendment resolution

ST. JOSEPH — A standing-room only crowd, that spilled out into the hallway of the Berrien County commissioners’ chambers, on Thursday voiced opinions both pro and con on a proposal to declare a “sanctuary county” affirming Second Amendment rights to own guns. “The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” declared Jack Straszewski, of Niles, part of the Michigan for 2A Sanctuary Counties, which presented a resolution last month to commissioners that “affirmed an individual’s right to possess a firearm, unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that firearm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.”
