San Clemente Declares Itself a “Second Amendment Freedom City”

Culture wars are all the rage these days and the surf town of San Clemente is just the latest to get in on the action. In a 3-2 vote on June 1, the City Council declared itself a "Second Amendment Freedom City.” The Council almost went with the term “sanctuary city,” but dropped it at the last minute. The resolution doesn’t mean much, except that San Clemente really wants you to know it likes guns. It’s a non-binding resolution that the city is sending to the governor and lawmakers so that they too can be aware the city really likes guns. Needles was the first California city to declare itself a sanctuary for gun owners in 2019. Towns in other states have also passed similar resolutions. Last week was a victorious one for Second Amendment advocates in California. A few days after San Clemente’s resolution, a federal judge overturned the state’s longtime assault weapons ban . Meanwhile, the sheriff of LA’s most populous county says his department will speed up concealed carry permit issuances amid a rise in violent crime.
