Saratoga gun show takes its final shot

SARATOGA SPRINGS – The City Center will host its final gun show this weekend. The displays on Saturday and Sunday will be the last of 107 gun shows the center has hosted. In recent years, the popular shows drew outside criticism amid growing anger about gun violence and school shootings. Dave Petronis and his New Eastcoast Arms Collectors Association were exiled since the City Council voted unanimously in March to ban gun sales at the center. The vote came after the Parkland, Fla., shooting in which a gunman killed 14 students and three faculty members with an AR-15 style semiautomatic rifle. Petronis, in an extensive press release, blamed "the anti-gun radicals who wish to strip those rights from our state and federal constitutions." He also said that the banning shows in Saratoga Springs will result in a loss of millions that could have been spent in the city. "Vacations have been scheduled and folks from every state of the union have attended this arms fair," he said. "but they will no longer come." The City Center’s Executive Director Ryan McMahon has said he is not concerned with filling the dates usually set aside for two shows held each year. "The gun shows were in the center a total of six days each year," McMahon said in March. "Fortunately, I have a great staff so they’ll be able to (fill the dates)."
