State senator Eric Burlison jumps into 7th District U.S. House race

State Sen. Eric Burlison, a Republican from Battlefield, announced Wednesday morning he was joining the race for southwest Missouri’s congressional seat. He’s the latest candidate in what will likely become a competitive Republican primary to replace U.S. Rep. Billy Long, who is running for U.S. Senate , in the solidly red 7th District . Burlison, who served seven years in the Missouri House before his election to the state Senate in 2018, sought to identify himself as “the leading conservative voice” in the legislature in his campaign announcement Wednesday. His current district encompasses parts of Greene and Christian counties, and his seat is up for re-election in 2022. “I am proud to say I have a solid record safeguarding Missouri from radical socialism and championing conservative and America First values in our state,” Burlison said in a statement. “I will never be a weak Republican who wants to go to Washington to play politics. I will be a champion for our southwest Missouri conservative values and fight every day to protect our way of life!” The tax consultant and investment adviser touted his support of former President Donald Trump’s platform, including his efforts to make it more difficult for voter petitions to land on election ballots.
