Tazewell County continuing the discussion of a referendum supporting the second amendment

TAZEWELL COUNTY, Ill – The second amendment has become a heavily discussed topic in Tazewell County. Gun owners are pushing leaders to publicly support the second amendment. Several residents are fearful that their rights could soon be taken away as leaders across the county enact tougher gun laws. The county is now discussing a referendum that will make it known that Tazewell County supports the second amendment. Some leaders agree, while others say this could put the county in conflict with the law. The biggest debate is over whether or not Tazewell will be called a sanctuary county. “I think the word sanctuary has taken on a lot of connotations nationally between immigration and different things,” said Executive Committee Chairman David Zimmerman. “I think that really muddies the water.” A full board meeting is planned for Wednesday where leaders plan to vote on this referendum and its language along with discussing the future the Tazewell County Auditor position.
