Following the tragic events of a horrific shooting in Brooklyn, in which 10 people were shot and injured, it’s beyond time to address the nature of gun violence in America. About 45,000 people die from gun violence each year in the United States. Approximately 40,000 people are killed every year in automobile accidents and no one suggests we ban cars. More than 200,000 people are killed each year due to medical malpractices and no one suggests banning medical care. In 2020, there were 99,000 deaths related to alcohol, yet are we going to bring back prohibition on that? Furthermore, there is no specific similar right to own a car, get drunk or see a doctor. Those are privileges, not rights. Owning a gun is our Second Amendment right, according to the Constitution. Regarding the guns: The White House and the left constantly attacking the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms is a pathetic abdication of duty and another distraction to make everyone think they are doing something productive instead of causing self-inflicted disasters. Afghanistan, inflation, gas prices, crime, open borders, raising debt, Ukraine, and then pathetically blaming Putin or Trump for crises they have caused. Guns do not kill people. People with guns kill people. When the left defunds the police, people feel less safe, they buy guns legally to protect themselves. Stop blaming guns. America has had its trial run of socialism and rejected it. James Lisicky Allentown
