The Public Pulse: Students and gun control

School students from Montgomery County, Maryland, rally in solidarity with those affected by the shooting at Parkland High School in Florida, at the Capitol in Washington, D.C., Feb. 21. It’s interesting to see all the schoolkids being given so much press and a voice in the gun control debate. This youthful exuberance in laudable, but it would mean so much more if they had enough life experience to understand the complexity of the issue or had a good American history teacher — a teacher who would help them understand what caused a group of British citizens to engage in revolution against the most powerful government on the planet (at the time), write the Declaration of Independence and create the first Constitutional Republic.
