Veteran voters talk points of emphasis from Onslow County polls on Election Day

While most voters who took to the polls on a chilly Tuesday morning for Election Day were there simply to cast their ballots, a few Onslow County veteran voters were willing to share their opinions on the election and some of the issues at hand that are most important to them. One local veteran who was open to voicing his thoughts was former U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Chris Kaiser, who admitted he has an uneasy feeling about the election and wants to see more transparency and accountability in governments of all levels. “We definitely need to start paying much more attention to our congressmen and who’s backing them,” Kaiser said. “I feel like a lot of that should be much more transparent.” Kaiser also noted that he would like to see reform in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. “They need to redo the VA and get it a lot more efficient than what it is,” Kaiser said. “I see a lot of veterans that struggle with PTSD, that struggle with depression or just the accessibility to care because they’ve got such a long waitlist.” Locally, Kaiser would like to see better support for schools. “I see that funding for schools, like the last 20 years I’ve lived here, has been cut almost every year without question, and I feel like it should be reprioritized,” he said.
