Virginia advances gun control bills that ban sale of some semi-automatics, possession of high-capacity magazines

Virginia gun control debate could push some counties to join West Virginia As the debate over stricter gun laws rages on in the state capitol of Richmond, Virginia, West Virginia lawmakers have signed on to new legislation that would accept revolting Virginia counties and towns who want to join the Mountain State. West Virginia Delegate Gary Howell discusses this new legislation and if he agrees with some critics who claim a second Civil War is brewing. Despite overwhelming opposition from gun owners and gun rights groups, Virginia Democratic lawmakers on Friday advanced legislation that would ban the sale of some semiautomatic firearms as well as end the possession of high-capacity magazines. Gun supporters packed a state House committee room and shouted in protest when legislation to ban the sale of assault weapons like AR-15 style-rifles, prohibit the possession of silencers as well as magazines that hold more than 12 rounds, passed out of committee. The uproar caused Capitol Police to clear the committee room of almost every spectator following the vote, The Associated Press reported. Virginia has been ground zero for the country’s heated debate over gun control.
