Your Turn: March 2 Your Turn: March 1 Star’s S.A. connection Re: “Child star later played Josephine the plumber,” Life Tributes, Tuesday: I was surprised and disappointed in reading the obituary concerning the late actress Jane Withers. Of interest to a lot of us San Antonians is how in 1940, Hollywood made a feature film about Jefferson High School starring Withers called “High School.” It featured exterior shots of the campus and Jeff High organizations such as the Jr. ROTC, football team, and the Lassos pep squad. Before this movie was released, Jeff High was featured in a big article in Life magazine. The film is a bit campy and is still viewable online, if one is so interested. I am a Jefferson graduate and I’m sure other grads would have appreciated mention of Withers’ connection to San Antonio in the obit. Robert E. Blake Wrong incentive Re: “S.A. throws money at vaccine issue,” Front Page, Aug. 5: San Antonio plans to offer $100 gift cards to people who now, at this late stage, allow themselves to be vaccinated. It would be a slap in the face to those hundreds of thousands who took the time to get a shot and showed responsibility and care for others. Since there, apparently, is money available to increase the vaccination level, those funds could better be used to reimburse people who have to take time off from work and also, when needed, to provide transportation to vaccination locations.
